Sure.   I'm talking about the API and semantics to it, not which process 
it runs in.

In some sense, I guess you could say that this is the approach to a 
"foreign function interface" that I think makes the most sense in this 
context.

I elided but respect your point about Marklogic's goal of making 
practical products.   I don't happen to agree that this alternative is 
"academic" but I'm certain it's not worth arguing over.   Thank you for 
sharing your perspective.
