Michal,

Feel free to give BaseX a try; many of our users have XML documents in
the range of gigabytes (the largest database we built ourselves was 70
GB).

Apart from that, I know that MonetDB & Sedna (open source) and X-Hive
& Qizx/db (commercial) can handle doc. larger than 1 GB.
