[xquery-talk] XQuery Update to Transform functions

Hi all,

I didn't think too much about it yet, but would it be somehow possible for an XQuery processor (at least in theory) to take an XQUpdate query and automatically transform it to a number of transform functions that return copies of modified documents which are changed in the way the original documents would be changed by an XQUpdate query in question?

What are the major problems here?
