Now that we have serialization parameter documents in XQuery 3.0, it 
would be easy enough to support serialization options in fn:put() by 
passing an instance of a serialization parameter document as a parameter 
to the function.

Too late for the current Update Recommendation, but worth discussing in 
the Working Group.
